Digital representation schemes for 3d curves
نویسندگان
چکیده
Digital representation of three dimensional curves is considered. Two dimensional representation schemes are rst reviewed, then methods applicable to curves in three and higher dimensional spaces are described. Desirable properties of curve representation schemes are identiied and used as a basis for qualitative and quantitative comparison of the various methods that have been suggested. Conclusions concerning the selection of a digital 3-D curve representation scheme for shape analysis and coding are drawn. It is shown that grid intersect quantization is a poor choice for curve representation in 3-D space and that cube quantization, that leads to 6-connected chain codes, meets all the identiied requirements and should be preferred.

Linear and Non-Linear Subdivision Schemes in Geometric Modeling
Subdivision schemes are efficient computational methods for the design, representation and approximation of 2D and 3D curves, and of surfaces of arbitrary topology in 3D. Subdivision schemes generate curves/surfaces from discrete data by repeated refinements. While these methods are simple to implement, their analysis is rather complicated. The first part of the talk presents the “classical” ca...
متن کاملA Novel Fuzzy and Artificial Neural Network Representation of Overcurrent Relay Characteristics
Accurate models of Overcurrent (OC) with inverse time relay characteristics play an important role for coordination of power system protection schemes. This paper proposes a new method for modeling OC relays curves. The model is based on fuzzy logic and artificial neural networks. The feed forward multilayer perceptron neural network is used to calculate operating times of OC relays for various...
متن کاملLength Estimation in 3
Estimators for the original length of a continuous 3-D curve given its digital representation are developed. The 2-D case has been extensively studied. The few estimators that have been suggested for 3-D curves suuer from serious drawbacks, partly due to incomplete understanding of the characteristics of digital representation schemes for 3-D curves. The selection and thorough understanding of ...
متن کاملRecognition of feature curves on 3D shapes using an algebraic approach to Hough transforms
Feature curves are largely adopted to highlight shape features, such as sharp lines, or to divide surfaces into meaningful segments, like convex or concave regions. Extracting these curves is not sufficient to convey prominent and meaningful information about a shape. We have first to separate the curves belonging to features from those caused by noise and then to select the lines, which descri...
متن کاملDeveloping a BIM-based Spatial Ontology for Semantic Querying of 3D Property Information
With the growing dominance of complex and multi-level urban structures, current cadastral systems, which are often developed based on 2D representations, are not capable of providing unambiguous spatial information about urban properties. Therefore, the concept of 3D cadastre is proposed to support 3D digital representation of land and properties and facilitate the communication of legal owners...
